Close Proximity + Frequent Opportunity = Opportunities for Meaningful Inclusion and Friendship

At POP, our goal is to dream up ways to get folks with and without disabilities in “close proximity” via activities involving “play”, preferably in a team setting. We sometimes use “reverse inclusion” to bring about meaningful inclusion – which means taking sports that usually only allow athletes with disabilities to participate and inviting people without disabilities to play as well. So far we’ve chosen Power Wheelchair Soccer  and Wheelchair Basketball  as demonstration activities to see if those activities will serve the purpose, and the results are encouraging. In the future we hope to add Adapted Kickball to the mix, but we’ll have to invent the necessary equipment first 😉 Once we’ve provided enough “frequent opportunities”, we hope to see the kind of friendship and community building we all need to get through life. So far the results are encouraging. We hope you’ll come join our community and see for yourself sometime
