Go Baby Go

Go Baby Go
The GoBabyGo program is based on the idea of “ON-Time Mobility” … which refers to the fact that babies usually start crawling between 6 to 12 months old, then toddling, then walking at around 12-18 months old. This is occurring while their brains are developing at an incredible rate .. 80% of human brain development occurs by the age of 3, at a rate of approximately one million neural connections per second. At this young age, we learn to move and move to learn. If you can’t move yourself independently, then you’re missing out on important development. You learn so much more when you’re “the driver” … having to figure out which way to go and how to get there safely … versus being the passenger and just being along for the ride. Right now, there just aren’t enough toys and tools readily available to help young children with mobility impairments get the independent movement they so badly need. That’s where the GoBabyGo program comes in.
Started in 2014 by therapists and researchers, the goal is to fix the shortage of mobility devices available for toddlers by adapting ride-on toy cars and turning them into “GoBot”s for any youngster that isn’t able to move independently on their own … yet! The idea isn’t to replace therapy or walking, it’s to provide a “taxi cab” while nature and nurture have a chance to catch up. Research is slowly building that the WHY (learning independence) is just as important as the HOW (whether driving or walking), and leads to gains in both skills. But it’s important to start NOW, as early as possible.
